Why Do we Want Power Amp Profiles?

Its a valid question, and the answers may surprise you.. As we all know, the challenges of getting the loud amp sound are making life harder and harder for anyone to get "in the zone". The only choice for most people seems to be a reactive load box, effective but with 1 serious downside.. you have to run your amp on full blast all the time, which will eventually take its toll on event the hardiest of gear. What if you could keep your amp on standby, and still get 100% authentic power amp behavior at any volume level.. even with a modest listening volume enjoy proper sustain and rich harmonic feedback on your studio monitors? well, now you can. And that is only one of many reasons properly created power amp profiles are a superior option to a power soak (try a different power tube sound? no problem, switch profiles!) That's not even considering using them with things like preamp pedals and preamp profiles.. a world of possibilities there.

The more you think about it.. the more sense it makes, however the lack of availability of properly captured profiles that correctly replicate the effect of the speaker's impedance curve under load means it wasn't even an option.. until now! we went the extra mile to do these right, and it shows in how they sound and feel to play. Sure we had to spend a while wearing ear protectors.. but it was worth it!

Loud Amp Sound

Experience the "Loud Amp Sound" at Lower Volumes: Power amp profiles let you use your preamp at regular volume levels while still enjoying the awesome high-volume poweramp sound. Ideal for practice, recording, and live performances, providing an economical alternative to running your amp at full blast through a load box.

Double the realism!

Profiling both the preamp and power amp sections separately enhances accuracy potential. While Neural Amp Modeler excels at complex amplifier profiling, dividing the process can further elevate accuracy.

Tonal Exploration

Unleash Creative Tonal Exploration: Discreet poweramp profiles offer new creative combinations of preamp and poweramp sections. For example, you can pair your preamp with a different power stage to the original, time to design your own amp!

A new way to experience Electric Guitar

We know this sounds a bit like mad science, but we have created profiles for Neural Amp Modeler that can, when used correctly, make your electric guitar with standard magnetic neck pickup (humbucker or Single coil) sound like an acoustic guitar, mic'd up in the studio.

In order to create these profiles some advanced manipulation of the electric guitar sound is performed to make it resemble the tonal, resonance and envelope characteristics of an acoustic instrument. This proprietary process goes way beyond anything previously achieved and we are very excited to share it with you.

Quantum Acoustic - Tone Match IRs

So what are Tone Match IRs, and why do we need them?

Electric guitar pickups all sound different, so it is not possible to have a single generic profile that will sound the same using every electric guitar. The solution to this was to create  “Tone Match IRs”. These load into the IR slot on the NAM plugin, or any other IR loader, and bring your guitar’s neck pickup closer to our reference model which was used to create all the profiles. This solves the issue and makes it possible for almost any guitar to work with Quantum Acoustic Profiles.

A tone match IR is an impulse response created from a simple EQ curve, it is not a complex FFT type IR like say, a speaker cabinet IR. This just brings your pickup closer to the sound of the original used to create the profiles, so you can fine tune it with the EQ controls on the NAM plugin.

Because of this simple curve used, you do not need to have a tone match file for your exact guitar, indeed if you are using a humbucker neck pickup you may not need one at all, so be sure to try that too! it is NOT critical for you to match your pickup to the reference exactly, more to get close enough that you can then tweak it to your liking. the main consideration is that all our Quantum Acoustic profiles are created using a humbucker, so for single coil guitars you definitely want to try some of the tone match IRs..

Your Electric guitar controls still work! While we do recommend the use of a neck pickup with our Quantum Acoustic profiles, you can still use your tone and volume controls. The unique character of your guitar will also come through in the final sound, there is no `perfect` match or setting for each profile, they are created to bring the characteristics of the acoustic guitar to your electric, but they are also carefully crafted to maintain musicality and allow the unique sound of your electric to be a part of the final result.. A whole new experience! All our Quantum Acoustic packs come with 2 distinct flavors of the same acoustic as separate profiles for variety when creating recordings.

The sound you hear will be a hybrid
